Is There Hope for a Diplomatic Settlement Between Israel and the Palestinians?

We can speculate about purpose of the Hamas attack on October 7th on Israeli military outposts and kibbutzim, but as we enter the fourth week of the war I am more worried that we are on the precipice of a world war and that strong diplomatic pressure is needed to avert a catastrophe. Some analysts believe that the Hamas attack was part of a broader plan to tempt Israel to invade Gaza in order to rally the Arab and Muslim world to the side of the Palestinians. Whether or not that was the purpose, that has been the effect. As Palestinian casualties mount, the Arab and Muslim nations are becoming more vocal in demanding an end to Israel’s attacks on Palestinians, not just in Gaza, but throughout Israel and the West Bank.
